Case Study – Gorilla
Gorilla expands and streamlines operations with ContentAgent
“ContentAgent offered two significant advantages; an easy to use interface… and, uniquely, it allowed us to insert edit AS-11 files – a valuable asset in terms of time saving when up against tight deadlines.”
With 70 edit suites across two main sites and other locations, Gorilla is the largest post production facility in Wales, with a brand new purpose build flagship facility in the heart of Cardiff Bay. As part of a facility-wide upgrade which has also seen the installation of Avid S6 control surfaces, three new dubbing theatres, two Baselight grading suites and massive shared storage expansion, Gorilla is deploying two ContentAgents from ROOT6 Technology. The acquisition of these file-based workflow management tools followed a substantial evaluation of available kit and visits to NAB and IBC.
“We’d been looking at workflow automation for some time,” said Technical Director Rhodri James. “We deliver files in a variety of formats globally but the catalyst was the October deadline set by the DPP. We wanted to automate our deliverables workflow and examined a number of alternatives. In our opinion ContentAgent offered two significant advantages; it provided an easy to use interface that was operator-friendly and quickly grasped and, uniquely, it allowed us to insert edit AS-11 files – a valuable asset in terms of time saving when up against tight deadlines.”
“Following ContentAgent’s accreditation by AMWA for AS-11 UK DPP deliverables we ordered two systems, one for workflow automation with the second being used exclusively for file-based QC. With the new delivery format, the onus on delivering QC’d material is firmly with the post house and we’ve opted for Vidchecker which also provides useful auto-correction facilities.”
Gorilla is also using a stand-alone application MetaAgent, which, according to James, “Fits neatly into our working practice.” MetaAgent removes the need for complex metadata and XML scripting, minimising errors and allowing editorial and production staff to handle metadata in a familiar format. Users can share and save templates, allowing for centralised pooling of metadata and auto-population of commonly used metadata schemas.
A simple one-click submission system allows users to submit files and metadata to any ContentAgent workflow for processing. Technical supervisors can be notified by email that assets are ready for approval before proceeding further down the delivery chain, or an entire file delivery workflow can be triggered automatically, simultaneously creating AMWA certified AS-11 UK DPP deliverables, proxies, archival copies and more. Once submitted, users can track the progress of their asset from anywhere in the facility via ContentAgent’s web monitoring console, assuring peace of mind whatever the workflow.
