Avid Ingest

Workflow Goal:

Automate the creation of Avid compliant MXF files

In any end-to-end tapeless post-production workflow, one of the longest and most time-consuming processes is ingesting card and clip based media.

ContentAgent can help automate the ingest of camera cards (and single clips) into an Avid editing environment with support for a range of professional and consumer card formats, such as P2, XDCAM, AVCHD, DSLR, GoPro and more. Using ContentAgent’s powerful workflow engine, fully automated card ingest workflows are already being successfully deployed in intensive production and post-production environments. Media and metadata are ingested, then transcoded (or rewrapped for greater efficiency) and imported into the workflow, including archiving and proxy generation.

In Avid environments ContentAgent can automate the transcoding (or re-wrap) of material to Avid-compliant MXF files to local or shared storage, with user defined metadata included if desired,  freeing up Avid workstations for editorial not transcoding or ingest. Further flexibility is added with the ability to create offline and full resolution media, enabling Avid re-linking for mastering finished programmes. Customers using Avid’s Interplay production system can also benefit from ContentAgent checking clips in the asset management system as part of the automated workflow, including the creation of proxy and full resolution clips to allow for a multi resolution workflow.

This functionality frees up Avid editors from the time-consuming drudge of transcoding or re-wrapping available material into a common file format for editing, asset management and archiving. By offloading and automating these mundane but necessary tasks to ContentAgent, facilities are better placed to take advantage of the seamless interchange benefits afforded by MXF.

Automated Avid Ingest

A ContentAgent workflow can be set up which will:

  • Transcode files into an Avid OP-Atom MXF format. Or ContentAgent can rewrap existing MXF clips into OP-Atom MXF format (No Transcoding is done on the clip only a rewrap if desired)
  • Allow custom metadata to be added to each clip automatically (via a ContentAgent metadata schema)
  • These files can then be opened by any standalone Avid editing system or shared storage system (ISIS or Unity MediaNetwork) providing the most efficient path to enabling collaborative editing workflows.

Automated Avid Interplay Ingest

A ContentAgent workflow can be set up which will:

  • Transcode files into an Avid OP-Atom MXF format. Or ContentAgent can rewrap existing MXF clips into OP-Atom MXF format (No Transcoding is done on the clip only a rewrap if desired)
  • Allow custom metadata to be added to each clip automatically (via a ContentAgent metadata schema)
  • Browse the Interplay folder structure (and shared storage workspace) to choose which folder to use. ContentAgent can also  create Interplay folders (based on metadata) on the fly.
  • Automatically check clips into this folder within the Avid Interplay database.
  • These files can then be opened by any Avid editing system connected to the Avid Interplay database and shared storage system (ISIS) providing the most efficient path to enabling collaborative editing workflows.

Customers ingesting large numbers of camera cards (such as fast turnaround environments in News and Sports) in post production can also benefit from using CardAgent, a easy to use desktop application which allows operators to prepare camera cards for ingest with ease into an Avid system.
